WHAT IS ROTARY?

Rotary is a global network of 1.4 million people who see a world where people unite and take action to create lasting change – across the globe, in our communities, and in ourselves.

Solving real problems takes real commitment and vision. For more than 110 years, Rotary's people of action have used their passion, energy, and intelligence to take action on sustainable projects. From literacy and peace to water and health, we are always working to better our world, and we stay committed to the end.

Rotary members believe that we have a shared responsibility to take action on our world’s most persistent issues. The membership of over 46,000 Rotary clubs worldwide work together to:

  • Promote peace

  • Fight disease, like POLIO

  • Provide clean water, sanitation*, and hygiene

  • Save mothers and children

  • Support education and youth development

  • Grow local economies

  • Protect the environment

  • Respond to natural disasters

Rotary’s global programme to eradicate polio is close to achieving its goal with financial support from benefactors including Bill Gates and our own regional fund-raising.

Being a Rotarian is to join a family that reaches across the globe to our home here in Rangiora and North Canterbury. Each year there is a new inspiration for members to reach up and make their individual contribution.

RANGIORA ROTARY

Rangiora Rotary serves North Canterbury and is a local, active, part of Rotary International .  It is part of a South Island district and is at the heart of North Canterbury’s urban and rural groups - providing fellowship and support for the needs of others and building a community of opportunity and safety

Local Rotary members undertake fund-raising activities to help families in need; creating community facilities, helping young people grow (various school age programmes) and become leaders of the future (through our Rotary Young Leaders programme), through to conservation work.

Our meetings are an opportunity for fellowship and sharing of ideas to improve our environment and raise funds for specific projects that benefit the community in which we live.

Members, male and female,  are drawn from all walks of life and backgrounds including the professions, business, trades, local and central government, and farming. They are people who are willing to put the needs of others ahead of their own.

We feel so good about our community and its people, particularly the young , that we are willing to spend a bit of our time, effort and yes, a little of our cash, investing in the future of this town and its residents.

Inspired by a desire to make a difference, our Rotarians turn out for working bees that transform our environment clearing valued landscapes, sometimes littered with rubbish, into recreational spaces for use by young and old alike.

We are fortunate to live in a region of braided rivers, grasslands and rolling hills that give way to towering snow-capped mountains. Our Rotary members value what we have and strive to make it more accessible.

We support numerous projects that help our young grow into citizens who hold positive values and care for the community.
